QUEEN MOTHER MİHRİŞAH
(1745-1805)
III. Mustafa’s Wife,III. Selim’s Mother
As of the mid-18th century, open-front dresses with short or long sleeves, sprinkled with small spring flowers and buttoned at the waist, were worn at the Ottoman Palace. Pointed sleeves on dresses were also common. Undergarments that women wore in the 18th century were buttoned, made of gold brocade, and had open fronts. During the summer months, they would wear full-length undergarments made of silk crepe. The queen mother’s caftan is characteristic of the period.
